Cranberry Blue (Vacciniina optilete [Knoch])

Wing span: 7/8 - 1 inch (2.2 - 2.5).

Identification: Upperside violet blue, female marked with dark scales. Underside of both wings withstrong black postmedian spot rows; hindwing with 1 black edged orange submarginal spot near anal angle.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: One flight from mid-June to mid-August.

Caterpillar hosts: Cranberries and low blueberries (Vaccinium spp.)

Habitat: Spruce bogs in taiga and tundra.

Range: Holarctic. In North America the species ranges from Alaska eastward through central Northwest territories and southward into the northern reaches of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
