Nabokov's Satyr (Cyllopsis pyracmon [Butler])

Wing span: 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches (3.8 - 4.5 cm).

Identification: Upperside is reddish brown; male forewing with dark scales in and below the cell. Underside of hindwing has a dark postmedian line with an outward-pointing jag near the costa.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: Two broods from May-June and August-September.

Caterpillar hosts: Muhlenbergia emersleyi in Arizona.

Adult food: Not reported.

Habitat: Oak and pinyon woodland, streamsides.

Range: Guatemala north through Mexico to southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico.

Conservation: Not usually required.
