Banded Alpine (Erebia fasciata Butler)

Wing span: 1 3/4 - 1 7/8 inches (4.0 - 4.2 cm).

Identification: Wings lack eyespots. Underside pale gray basal and postmedial bands on hindwing.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: One flight from late June to middle July.

Caterpillar hosts: Possibly cottongrass

Habitat: Moist swales on tundra.

Range: Holarctic. Northern and eastern Alaska, through the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Victoria Island.
