Reddish Alpine (Erebia lafontainei Troubridge and Philip)

Wing span: 1 5/8 - 1 3/4 inches (4.2 - 4.5 cm).

Identification: Dark brown with dark fringes. Underside of forewing with submarginal row of 3-4 black dots surrounded by orange. Hindwing with median brown band and irregular wide gray postmedian band. Hindwing covered with dense long reddish hair.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: One brood from middle June to middle July.

Caterpillar hosts: Not reported.

Habitat: Shrubby arctic or alpine tundra.

Range: Northern Alaska and western Yukon.
