Wing span: 1 3/4 - 2 1/16 inches (4.4 - 5.3 cm).

Identification: Black or brown black with a red-orange suffusion on forewing.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: One brood from late June to middle July.

Caterpillar hosts: Not reported.

Habitat: Rock slides and rocky ridges.

Range: Holoarctic. In America occuring in northern Alaska and western Yukon.
