Philip's Arctic (Oeneis rosovi Kurentzov)

Wing span: 1 3/4 - 2 inches (4.6 - 5.0 cm).

Identification: Wings translucent. Upperside of hindwing narrowly black-edged and with small yellow submarginal dots. Underside of hindwing narrowly black edged as on upper surface.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: One flight from middle June to middle July, but only in odd-numbered years.

Caterpillar hosts: Cottongrass.

Habitat: Spruce bogs.

Range: Holoarctic. In North America occurring in central Alaska, in northern and central Yukon, and in northern British Columbia.
