Emerald Aguna (Aguna claxon Evans) Wing span: 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches (3.8 - 4.5 cm). Identification: Hindwings are lobed. Upperside of body is green. Upperside of wings is brown with green wing bases. Forewing has a white median band both above and below. Underside of hindwing has a distinct silver-white median band. Life history: Not reported. Flight: October in South Texas, June-October in Mexico. Caterpillar hosts: Probably legumes. Adult food: Flower nectar. Habitat: Subtropics. Range: Venezuela and Colombia north through Central America to Mexico. A rare stray to the lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas. |
