Mithrax Skipper (Chiomara mithrax Möschler)

Wing span: 1 3/8 - 1 9/16 inches (3.5 - 4.0 cm).

Identification: Male primarily dark brown with a purple sheen, female lighter; submarginal band of small dark spots outlined with outwardly directed scallops; hindwing with three concentric dark bands.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: All year in the tropics

Caterpillar hosts: Not reported.

Habitat: Subtropical thorn scrub.

Range: Northern Mexico south to Argentina. A rare stray in southeastern Arizona.
