Christina Sulphur (Colias christina W.H. Edwards)

Wing span: 1 3/8 - 2 inches (3.5 - 5.2 cm).

Identification: Fringes pink; male forewing with outer two-thirds orange and base yellow; female forewing similar or pale orange, rarely white. Hindwing olive green to mossy green with a single pink-rimmed cell spot.

Life history: Caterpillar yellow-green with tiny black spots and a white, lateral line containing orange dashes.

Flight: One flight from May to September, but most common in June and July.

Caterpillar hosts: Various legumes including sweet vetch.

Habitat: Forest openings and roadsides.

Range: Eastern Alaska east to western Northwest Territories, and south through eastern British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Extending south to northern Wyoming, eastern Oregon, and western South Dakota.
