Johansen's Sulphur

Johansen's Sulphur (Colias johanseni Troubridge and Philip)

Wing span: 1 3/8 - 1 1/2 inches (3.5 - 3.8 cm).

Identification: Male wing fringes pale, female fringes pink. Upperside deep orange with black borders. Black suffusion on hindwing extensive, particularly in the female. The male has a bare sex patch on the forward edge of the hindwing near the base. The underside is dark green.

Life history: Unknown.

Flight: One flight in July.

Caterpillar hosts: Unknown.

Habitat: Hilly tundra.

Range: Known only from Bernard Harbor in the Northwest Territories.
