Long-winged Greenstreak (Cyanophrys longula [Hewitson]) Wing span: 13/16 - 1 3/16 inches (2.1 - 3.0 cm). Identification: Front of head brown. Upperside of male iridescent blue of narrow black margins, female dark iridescent blue. Hindwing below olive-green with a continuous postmedian band of white dashes and brown margins. Upperside of hindwing with trailing edge produced and triangular and with black tufts at vein endings. Life history: Not described. Flight: March-May and August-December in Mexico. Caterpillar hosts: Polyphagous including species in the Asteraceae and Verbenaceae. Habitat: Oak-Pine and deciduous forest. Range: Mexico straying into southeastern Arizona. |
