Calephelis 

 

  Calephelis borealis Northern Metalmark

Nearly twice as large as virginiensis (1 to 1 1/4 inches); more northerly species (compare distribution maps in the species accounts).

 

 Calephelis virginiensis Little Metalmark

Nearly half the size of borealis (1/2 to 1 inch); more southerly species (compare distribution maps in the species accounts).

 

 Calephelis mutica Swamp Metalmark

Northern distribution south to Arkansas; forewing pointed, not rounded as in borealis.

 

 Calephelis nemesis Fatal Metalmark

Forewing above with a dark median band; generally smaller than rawsoni (3/4 to 1 inch) (best seen in mixed series of the two). Very difficult to separate from rawsoni.
