Cavers in North America are very organized and extremely conservation minded. They have to be because of the delicate nature of many of the wonders found in caves. This page has general links to cave and karst conservation, but a great deal of cave conservation material can also be found on other pages on caves located in different parts of Nearctica. In particular be sure to check out the caving clubs and associations page for information on cave conservation news in your state or province.

GENERAL SITES

Cave Conservation and Management Section. National Speleological Society. The web pages for this section of the National Speleological Society carries current news on conservation issues on caving as well as extensive links to other web sites concerned with cave conservation. The site is also supposed to carry an online journal, "Cave Conservationist", but the magazine issues were all missing at the time of this review.

Bat Conservation International. This is undoubtedly the most important bat and bat conservation site on the web. You'll find something on just about everything here including the bats of North America, basic bat facts, echolocation, bat conservation, building bat houses, current news, and much more. Highly recommended.

Conservation of the North American Cave and Karst Biota. William R. Elliot. An online article on many aspects of cave conservation and the animals that live in them. The article covers extinct and endangered cave species, threats to cave and karst communities, and the management and restoration of caves.

Care and Maintenance of Missouri Bat Caves. Missouri Department of Conservation. An introduction to the bat caves of Missouri, their conservation, and what you can do to help.

NSS Policy for Cave Conservation. National Speleological Society. The NSS is the dominant factor in American caving. Therefore their policy for cave conservation is the code almost all cavers subscribe to.

Caving Codes of Conduct. British Columbia Speleological Society.

Cave and Karst Resources. National Park Service. On this page you will find links to resources on the caves and karst systems administered by the National Park Service.
