GENERAL INFORMATION
Wetlands.
Environmental Protection Agency Office of Water. This EPA site is a cornucopia
of information on wetlands. You can find a wide range of subjects here
ranging from a basic introduction to wetlands covering their types, importance,
current status, and fact sheets about wetlands. There is also information
about wetlands restoration projects, wetlands and watershed planning,
and links to other wetlands sites. The set of links you will find here
is extensive and very well organized covering all aspects of wetlands
from technical to sites for kids. You'll also find a large selection of
laws and regulations applying to wetlands.
Congressional
Research Service Reports. Library of Congress. The Congressional Research
Service provides research and summary reports to congress on a variety
of topics related to conservation and the environment. A number of their
reports are related to wetlands.
Information
on Wetlands. Watersheds. A wonderful source of basic information on
wetlands including data on wetlands, definitions, functions, protection,
human impacts, management, and links to other wetlands sites.
Florida
Department of Environmental Protection. Division of Water Facilities.
This site has "The Florida Wetlands Delineation Manual". This
manual is in the form of a series of Adobe Acrobat (pdf) files and contains
basic information on wetlands and separate sections on individual wetlands
in Florida. There are newletters at this site as well as a little data
on specific wetlands plants and lists of wetland plants found in Florida.
California
Wetlands Information System. California Department of Water Resources.
The state of California has an excellent site on wetlands and it includes
basic information on wetlands, the wetlands of California, educational
material, regulation, restoration, mitigation, and more.
Wetlands
Campaign. National Audubon Society. A series of articles advocating
wetlands conservation, with political news, the importance of wetlands,
and other topics.

Facts. Terrene Institute. A series of interesting facts about wetlands,
the types of wetlands, and their importance.
Wetlands:
Characteristics and Boundaries. National Research Council. This page
has an abbreviated version of the larger document which can be ordered
from the National Academy of Sciences. The online summary discusses the
definition of a wetland, its identifying characteristics, water, soils,
vegetation, regulation, and more.
Society of Wetland
Scientists. The Society of Wetland Scientists has a very extensive
set of links to other sites on the web involved with wetlands.
Prairie
Basin Wetlands of the Dakotas: A Community Profile. Harold Kantrud
et al. This site is an online manual on the ecology of wetland habitats
in the prairie region of North and South Dakota. Included are discussions
of the plants and animals, geology, climate, water quality, and other
factors affecting wetland habitats.
Coastlines.
Environmental Protection Agency. Coastlines is a newsletter published
by the EPA outlinging wetland topics with which the EPA has been involved.
This is a great place to keep abreast of recent events and news involving
wetlands.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
National Wetlands Inventory.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The National Wetlands Inventory plans,
directs, coordinates, and monitors information relating to the location
and importance of the United States' wetlands. A mountain of information
on the country's wetlands are available at this site including maps, databases,
metadatabase files, and software. If you need to know about where wetlands
are, their characteristics, and their ecological importance, this may
be the place to find it. However the data is highly technical and generally
not for the casual browser.

Research Program. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This Corps of Engineers
has a wealth of technical documents in Adobe Acrobat format (pdf) on wetlands.
You'll also find bulletins on issues of interest on wetlands.
Wetlands
of North and South Dakota. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Detailed
technical information on the wetlands of North and South Dakota.
National
Interagency Workshops on Wetlands. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A
series of largely technical papers on a variety of wetlands topics and
issues. Results of a workshop.
Fire
in North American Wetland Ecosystems and Fire-Wildlife Relations: An Annotated
Bibliography. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. A heavily annotated
bibliography of references to the effects of fire on wetlands in North
America, particularly the effects on wildlife and plants.
Hydric
Soils of the United States. National Soil Survey Center, USDA. Hydric
soils are those soils sufficiently wet in the upper part to develop anaerobic
conditions during the growing season. Although not limited to wetlands,
hydric soils are typical of wetland habitats. This site has an introduction
to hydric soils and very large and technical lists of hydric soils by
state, county, and for the entire United States.

of Hydric Soils in the United States. Wetland Science Institute. A
technical document on the various physical indicators delimiting and classifying
hydric soils.

The
Young Scientist's Introduction to Wetlands. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
An Adobe Acrobat (pdf file) document. This is an introduction to wetlands
for kids from kindergraden to the fifth grade. Learn what wetlands are,
their value, the plants and animals that live there, and more.
Water Drops.
Environmental Protection Agency. A series of newletters in Adobe Acrobat
(pdf) format that you can download. The material is written for kids and
deals with water topics including wetlands.

Reading List. Environmental Protection Agency. A very extensive reading
list for the k-12 crowd divided by age level; k-2, grades 3-5, grades
6-8, and grades 9-12.

Educational Resources and Products. Terrene Institute. An extensive

Water
Research Outreach Program. U.S. Geological Survey. A series of six
posters featuring water related subjects including wetlands designed for
kids. The posters are grouped in three sets; a set for grades 3-5, a set
for grades 6-8, and a black and white set for coloring. The posters can
be ordered from the USGS free of charge.
