Honewort (Cryptotaenia canadensis)

Identification: Flowers white, in clusters arranged in a very diffuse and ill-defined umbel. Flower sepals absent. Seeds elongate, ribbed, and pointed at the apex. Leaves usually divided into 3 leaflets, although lower leaflets may be partially cleft. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Southern Canada southward throughout most of our region. Also found throughout the Great Plains states.

Habitat: Honewort occurs in a variety of forest types.

Flowering period: June to September.
