Coast Blite (Chenopodium rubrum) Identification: Flowers insignificant with red sepals making the flowers appear reddish. Flowers in small spikes arising from leaf axils. Leaves fleshy, tinged with red, triangular, and with heavily toothed outer margins. Plant 12 to 30 feet in height. Distribution: Found along the Atlantic coast from southern Canada to New Jersey. Also occurs throughout the western United States and north-central plains states. Habitat: Coast Blite is found on salty soils along the Atlantic Coast. Flowering period: July to October. |
