Pinweed (Lechea racemulosa)

Identification: Plant thin and highly branched. Flowers insignificant, pink, arranged in highly branched cymes arising from the leaf axils. Seed pods ovoid, pink-brown. Stems thin, wispy. Leaves small, narrow. Plant 6 to 18 inches tall.

Distribution: Southern New York and Iowa southward to Georgia and Louisiana.

Habitat: Pinweed is found on poor or sandy soil.

Flowering period: July to November.

Similar Species:

There are a number of eastern species of the genus Lechea. Technical characters are needed to separate many of them.
