Longleaf Lobelia (Lobelia elongata)

Identification: Plant long and wispy. Flowers typical of the lobelias with 5 petals fused into a basal tube. Three lower petal lobes projecting downward. Upper 2 petals curled upward. Flower relatively small, deep blue. Flowers mostly confined to one side of the stem. Stem thin. Lower leaves elongate, grasslike with sharply toothed outer margins. Plant 2 to 4 feet in height.

Distribution: Found along the coast from Delaware south to Georgia and Louisiana.

Habitat: Found in a variety of wet habitats such as swamps and wet meadows.

Flowering period: August to October.
