Lobelia nuttallii Longleaf Lobelia is most likely to be confused with Nuttall's Lobelia and Brook Lobelia. However the lower leaves of neither of these two species has the sharply toothed outer leaf margins found in Longleaf Lobelia.

Longleaf Lobelia (Lobelia elongata) Identification: Plant long and wispy. Flowers typical of the lobelias with 5 petals fused into a basal tube. Three lower petal lobes projecting downward. Upper 2 petals curled upward. Flower relatively small, deep blue. Flowers mostly confined to one side of the stem. Stem thin. Lower leaves elongate, grasslike with sharply toothed outer margins. Plant 2 to 4 feet in height. Distribution: Found along the coast from Delaware south to Georgia and Louisiana. Habitat: Found in a variety of wet habitats such as swamps and wet meadows. Flowering period: August to October. |
