Dianthus armeria Deptford Pink has narrower petals, the flowers are in small clusters, and the flowers are surrounded by bristly flower bracts. Maiden Pink (Dianthus deltoides) Alien: Native of Europe. Identification: Flowers pink (the figure is too red). Petals broad with the apex toothed. Center of flower distinctly lighter than outer half. Flowers solitary, not surrounded by flower bracts. Stem stiff. Leaves narrow, pointed. Plant 6 to 16 inches in height. Distribution: Vermont to New Jersey, westward to Michigan and Illinois, and southward to North Carolina and Arkansas. Also occurs in parts of the western United States. Habitat: Maiden Pink occurs in dry fields and along roadsides. Flowering period: June to August. |
