Minuartia groenlandica Pine Barren Sandwort is similar to Mountain Sandwort, but has a coastal, southern distribution rather than the northern, montane range of Mountain Sandwort. Pine Barren Sandwort (Minuartia caroliniana) Identification: Flowers white with petals narrow, pointed at the tips. Leaves narrow, usually in opposite pairs, basal leaves small, narrow, dense, often forming mats. Plant 4 to 10 inches in height. Distribution: Found along the Atlantic Coast from New Jersey south to Florida. Habitat: Pine Barren Sandwort, as the name implies, is found in pine barrens. Flowering period: May to June. |
