Arenaria serpyllifolia Thyme-leaved Sandwort is similar but the leaves are much small (0.25 inches in length). Grove Sandwort (Moehringia lateriflora) Identification: Flowers white with five undivided petals and 10 stamens. Sepals shorter than petals. Flowers few and located at the apex of the plant. Leaves oblong, hairy, 0.5 to 1.0 inches in length, in opposite pairs, and sessile to the stem. Outer leaf margin untoothed. Plant 4 to 12 inches in height. Distribution: Across Canada and south to Missouri in the west and Virginia in the east. Also occurs in the western United States except for the southwestern states. Habitat: Grove Sandwort is found in wet areas and along lake and pond shores. Flowering period: May to July. |
