Sleepy Catchfly (Silene antirrhina) Identification: Flowers tiny with greatly reduced pink or white petals overwhelmed by the much larger bladderlike capsule. Petals notched at the tip, pointing upright. Stem often with black, sticky zones. Leaves elongate, with smooth outer margins, and sessile to the stem. Plant 8 to 30 inches in height. Distribution: Throughout North America. Habitat: Sleepy Catchfly is a species of fields, roadsides and open woods. Flowering period: May to September. |
