Sweet William Catchfly (Silene armeria)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers small, pink, with an elongate flower capsule. Flowers arranged in umbellike arrangements near the apex of the plant. Stem smooth. Leaves with a white bloom, smooth, oblong, with smooth outer margins, and sessile to the stem. Plant 10 to 12 inches in height.

Distribution: Most of eastern North America. Also found in scattered localities in the western United States.

Habitat: Sweet William Catchfly is a garden escape found along roadsides and forest margins.

Flowering period: June to October.
