Night Flowering Catchfly (Silene noctiflora)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers white with 5 deeply cleft petals and 3 styles. Calyx sac with a complex reticulation of purple lines. Calyx sac longer than wide, hairy. Plant sticky all over. Stem hairy. Leaves blade-like with smooth outer margins. Flowers opening at night. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America.

Habitat: Night Flowering Catchfly is a species of disturbed habitats such as roadsides, fields, and forest margins.

Flowering period: July to September.
