White Sage (Artemisia ludoviciana) Identification: Flowers small, round, yellow-green, arising in small panicles from the leaf axils. Leaves bladelike (lanceolate), not subdivided except lower leaves which may have apical teeth. Leaves with fine white hair on lower side giving plant a gray-white appearance. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height. Distribution: Most of North America, but primarily in the midwest and mountain states, occasionaly escaping from cultivation in the east. Habitat: White Sage is found on dry soils. Flowering period: July to September. |
