Stiff Aster (Ionactis linariifolius)

Identification: Flowers with light blue-lilac ray florets. Flowers single or in a small cluster at the tips of the stem. Stems stiff, rigid, whorled with the leaves, usually in a tussock. Leaves thick about the stem, needlelike, rigid, and with a single vein. Plant 6 to 20 inches in height.

Distribution: Most of eastern North America.

Habitat: Typically found in dry, rocky soil or along rock ledges.

Flowering period: September to October.
