Sericocarpus linifolius The few ray florets (4 to 5) will separate this species from most other asterlike composites. Narrow-leaved White-topped Aster also has few ray florets, but the leaves are much narrower than those of Toothed White-topped Aster. Toothed White-topped Aster (Sericocarpus asteroides) Identification: Flowers white with very few ray flowers (4 to 5). The basal leaves are spatulate, toothed, and taper to a narrow base without a distinct petiole. Plant 6 inches to 2 feet tall. Distribution: Michigan in the west to New England in the east, southward to Florida and Alabama. Habitat: Dry woods. Flowering period: June to October. |
