Tall Thoroughwort (Eupatorium altissimum)

Identification: Flowers white, usually in groups of five. Stem tall, downy, with spreading hairs. Leaves opposite, sessile to the stem, thin and elongate with the outer margin toothed. Plant 2 to 6 feet in height.

Distribution: Massachusetts in the east and Minnesota in the west extending southward to Florida and Texas.

Habitat: This species is found in dry, open places such as meadows and roadsides and has a fondness for calcareous soils.

Flowering period: August to October.
