Germander (Teucrium canadense)

Identification: Flowers pink to violet. Lower petal lobe large, concave, scoop-shaped. Stamens elongate, protruding from the flower and coming through a cleft in the upper petal lobe near the edge of the calyx. Flowers arranged in a spike at the apex of the plant. Stem square. Leaves variable in width, partially ovate to some degree, typically with short petioles. Plant 8 to 36 inches in height.

Distribution: Throughout North America.

Habitat: Germander is found in a variety of habitats including woods, thickets, and along shorelines.

Flowering period: July to September.
