Hairy Bush Clover (Lespedeza hirta)

Identification: An erect, tall plant. Flowers white, arranged in cylindrical clusters born on long flower stalks near the top of the plant. Stem hairy. Leaves with 3 leaflets. Leaflets round to slightly ovate, not elongate. Leaves on short petioles and crowded about the stem. Plant 2 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Southeastern Canada and New England southward to Florida and Texas.

Habitat: Hairy Bush Clover is found in dry open sites and roadsides.

Flowering period: July to October.

Similar Species:

The cylindrical clusters of white flowers on long flower stalks combined with the hairy stems will easily identify this species.
