Smooth White Violet (Viola macloskeyi Lloyd)

Identification: Leaves basal and flowers on separate stalks. Flowers white. Leaves small, nearly round or slightly heart-shaped and with wide indentation at the junction of the leaf blade and leaf petiole. Plant with runners.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America except for the south-central and southwestern United States.

Habitat: Smooth White Violet is found in wet woods and clearings and paths in these woods.

Similar Species: Smooth White Violet might be confused with either Sweet White Violet or Kidney-leaved Violet. The upper petals of Sweet White Violet are reflexed at their apices and the indentation between the leaf blade and the leaf petiole is narrower and deeper. The leaf of Kidney-leaved Violet is wider and than long and lacks runners (present in Smooth White Violet)
