This species is unlikely to be confused with any other species found in Florida with the possible exception of Leucania subpunctata. Leucania subpunctata is a much darker brown species and the hind wing is whiter and not nearly as heavily suffused with gray-brown. Leucania lobrega Adams
Diagnosis: A Floridian species. Forewing light brown with a distinct orange tint. A diffuse dark brown stripe running between the base of the wing and the small, white discal dot. Postmedial line a series of strong black dots. Upper margin of the wing (costa) slightly lighter than the rest of the wing. Hindwing suffused with gray-brown. Distribution (See map below): Leucania lobrega is rare, but found throughout most of Florida. The species also occurs in the Antilles. Identification Quality: Excellent
