Flies, Flies, Flies. Systematic Entomology Laboratory. A introduction to the Diptera with photographs of flies of several families. This site is still under construction. Currently there is more extensive information on two families, Syrphidae (Flower Flies) and Tephritidae (Fruit Flies). This is a very attractive site, but a slow server and large graphic files make for long download times. The reader can access the Biosystematic Database of World Diptera from this site.

Biting Flies Attacking Man and Lifestock in Canada. D.M. Wood. A wonderful introduction to the biology, systematics, natural history, and economics of bitting flies in Canada. This site also includes information about disease transmission, life cycles, and control of the Mosquitos, Black Flies, Horse and Deer Flies, etc.

Asilidae. Fritz Geller-Grimm. This site includes a key to the subfamilies of Asilidae (Robber Flies). You can also download a world catalog of the Robber Fly species of the world except, unfortunately, those from the Nearctic. Also included are a bibliography and links to other Robber Fly sites.

Checklist of Tachinidae of America North of Mexico. James E. O'Hara and D. Monty Wood, Agriculture Canada. A synonymical checklist of the tachnid species of North America incorporating the most recent changes in nomenclature and classification. This list is more up to date than that found in Nomina Insecta Nearctica.

Australasian/Oceanian Diptera Tachinidae. Although basically a catalog of the Tachinidae of the Australasian-Oceania region, the introduction has useful basic information on the Tachinidae.

Marin/Sonoma Mosquito Vector Control Home Page. This web site has information about the species of mosquitoes found in the San Francisco Bay region of California. You'll also find information about mosquito control and the diseases carried by them.
