This page lists general systematic resources for vascular plant systematics in the form of checklists or catalogs.

A Synonymized Checklist of the Vascular Flora of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Bioinformatics Working Group, Texas A and M University. A marvelous resource and just what the description in the title says it is. The site also contains distribution maps and sometimes photographs of each species.

Flowering Plant Gateway. Texas A and M University and Biota of North America Program (BONAP). The Biota of North America Program has developed an incredible resource on the vascular plants of North America. This section of BONAP gives you access to several alternative classifications of the vascular plants and a gateway to systematic resources at the family level. If you choose "Select Family", you will eventually be led to a list of web resources for any particular plant family including checklists, catalogs, distribution maps, photographs, and much more. Included among these resources are BONAP's own synonymical checklists of the vascular plant species of North America. This site is truly marvelous.

Plants Database. USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. An incredible site based primarily on the John Kartesz checklist of North American Plants. The site contains a searchable database of the North American plant species including photographs and distribution maps. You can also search the site by U.S. states or common name. You'll also find fact sheets, phylogeny, threatened and endangered species, weeds and invasive species, and wetland species. Highly recommended.

Gray Herbarium Card Index. Harvard University Gray Herbarium. This grandfather of online checklists is a searchable database of the names applied to the New World plant species.

Index Nominorum Genericum. Department of Botany, Smithsonian Institution. A searchable database of the generic names of the plants of the world.

Names in Current Use for Extant Plant Genera. International Association for Plant Taxonomy. A searchable database of plant generic names.

Indices Nominum Supragenicorum Plantarum Vascularum. Department of Plant Biology, University of Maryland. A searchable database of the scientific name applied to plant groups above the level of genus (e.g. family). This site also has information on alternative classifications of extant plants and a database of family names.

GRIN Taxonomy. USDA Agricultural Research Service. The GRIN database, maintained by ARS, provides the structure and nomenclature for the accessions of the National Plant Germplasm System. The database is large, world wide, and contains plant names usually of direct or potential importance to North American Agriculture. It has ancillary information. Specialized segments of this site include economic plants, family and generic names, weeds, and legumes.

Kew Royal Botanical Gardens. This site has databases of the vascular family and generic names as well as a database of the authors of plant names. Trying to get the full name for a cryptic author abbreviation? Go here.
