Native
Plants of Arizona. T. Ayers, T. Kolb, and E. Taylor. A great site
with information on the native plants of Arizona. This site uses frames
and a non-generic image map which makes navigation a bit tricky and overly
complicated. You can access information by either a phylogenetic tree
or through a map of Arizona's vegetation regions. Each family is treated
individually and many representative species are figured and information
for each given.
Common Plants
of the Verde Valley and Sedona. Naturesongs. A great site on the plant
life of central Arizona and the southwestern United States in general.
Included are photographs and information about all plant groups from the
region including wildflowers, shrubs, trees, and succulents. We particularly
like its coverage of plants not normally seen in a site such as the shrubs
of the southwest.
Arkansas
Biodiversity - The Vascular Flora. University of Arkansas Herbarium.
This is a great site on the vascular plants of Arkansas. It has Arkansas
distribution maps by county for each species. Or you can get a complete
list of species for the state or for each county.
CalFlora
Database. Berkeley Digital Library Project. This site is an extensive
searchable database of photographs of vascular plants of California. Clicking
on the species name generates information for each species and further
photographs. An absolutely killer site. Please go here.
CalFlora
Database II. USDA Forest Service, University of California at Berkeley
Digital Library, and the Univeristy of California at Davis Center for
the Environment. This searchable database contains geographic and ecological
information for 8363 California vascular plants. Additional information
is given for rare species and taxa from the Sierra Nevadas. The information
is given in the form of a table. You can also generate a distribution
map by county from this data held by the Texas A&M Bioinformatics
Working Group. A wonderful site.
Jepson Herbaria,
University of California. The Jepson herbaria provides a number of
resources and information, but perhaps the most interesting are distribution
maps for the plant species of California.
Southern
California Natural History. H. Towner. This site has information and
photographs on the terrestrial plants of Southern California.
The
Flora of Napa County, California. J. Callizo, J. Ruygt, and G. Muth.
A list of the vascular plant species of Napa County California with information
about each species. There is also a short section on the plant communities
of Napa County.
Electronic
Atlas of Siskiyou County Vegetation. Linda Freeman. This site has
a map of the vegetation zones of Siskiyou County in California. Each zone
has a short description of its physical and floral characteristics.
Catalina's
Endemic Plants. Catalina Island Conservancy. This site has pictures
and descriptions of the endemic plants (and some others) from Catalina
Island off the coast of Southern California.
Colorado
Rare Plant Field Guide. Colorado Natural Heritage Program. This site
contains a field guide to 173 rare plant species in Colorado. The site
includes pictures, information, and distribution maps for each of the
species as well as general information about plant conservation in the
state.
Native
Plants of Montara Mountain. Chuck Kozak. A great tour of the vascular
plants of Montara Mountain in the San Francisco Bay area. Included are
photographs and information about their biology and where to find them
in the Montara Mountain region.
The Vegetation of Lobo
Point and North Wild Horse Mesa, Eastern Mohave Desert. Thomas Schweich.
This site has a variety of information on the plant species and vegetation
types found in this part of the Mohave Desert including a list of species
of Lobo Point. This checklist also has a few photographs of some of the
species.
Atlas of Florida
Vascular Plants. A searchable database of the vascular plant species
of Florida. The site includes a list of the species with synonyms and
citations. You'll also find Florida distribution maps for each species
and, in many cases, photographs of the species.
Native
Plants of South Florida. Doug Scofield. This site has pictures and
some information on the native plants of southern Florida. It also has
traditional herbal uses for some of the species and a special section
on invasive exotics.
Field
Guide. Dominant Flora of the Ground Cover in Pine Forests of the Appalachicola
National Forest. Florida State University. The title says it all.
For each species a bit of information is given.
The
Tall Grass Prairie in Illinois. Kenneth Robertson. A nice site on
the prairie plants of Illinois with photographs and information.
Annotated
Checklist of the Flora of Minnesota. Anita F. Cholewa. A checklist
of the vasculat plants of Minnesota.
The
Missouri Flora Page. Missouri Department of Conservation. A collection
of pages on different aspects of the Missouri flora including forbs, trees,
prairie plants, wildflowers, rare and endangered plants, to name a few.
Plants
of the New Jersey Pinelands (Pine Barrens). Michael Gross. A gallery
of photographs of plants from the New Jersey Pine Barrens with general
information on the Pine Barren regions.
New Mexico Rare
Plants. New Mexico Rare Plant Technical Council. Photographs and information
about some of the rarer plants found in New Mexico along with a distribution
map for the range of species within the state.
Metropolitan
Plants - Metropolitan Plant Encyclopedia. Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
A very nice site covering the plants of the metropolitan New York region
with photographs and distribution maps by county. The site also has a
glossary of terms and you can access the plant names through a table of
contents or an alphabetical index.
Native
Wildflowers of the North Dakota Grasslands. Northern Prairie Wildlife
Research Center. This site deal with the wildflower species of the North
Dakota prairie. A photograph and information are given about each species.
Species are arranged by family.
Natural
History of Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia Museum. As you dig through this
wonderfully informative site, you will find downloadable files in Adobe
Acrobat format on the various plants groups and communities of Nova Scotia.
Pennsylvania Flora
Project. Morris Arboretum. A searchable database of the plant species
occurring in Pennsylvania. For each species there is information on its
habitat, conservation state, or weed status.
Cyber
Key to the Angiosperm Flora of Brazos. Monique Dubrule Reed. A dichotomous
key to the angiosperm plant families of Brazos County, Texas. For a few
families keys to genera and species are also present along with associated
information.
Bioinformatics
Working Group - Service Projects. This site has virtual tours of the
plants found in three sites in Texas; Lick Creek Park, Flynn Bog System,
and Moore's Hill Outcrop. Each site takes you to different types of habitats
at the site, tells you a little bit about the habitat and some of the
plants that occur there accompanied by photographs of the plants. Highly
recommended.
El
Paso Plants. EPBionet. Photographs of some plant species found in
the El Paso region of western Texas.
Desert
Plants of Utah. Utah State University Extension. This is an Adobe

Mountain
Plants of Northeastern Utah. Utah State University Extension. This
is an Adobe Acrobat (pdf) document.
Wisconsin
Vascular Plants. Wisconsin State Herbarium. A very important and impressive
flora for the state of Wisconsin. The site includes a complete checklist
of the plant species found in the state along with synonyms. For a very
large percentage of the species you'll also find photographs and distribution
maps. You can search by common or scientific name and also by habitat.
Highly recommended.
Wyoming
Rare Plant Field Guide. W. Fertig, C. Refsdal, and J. Whipple. A guide
to the 91 rarest plants in Wyoming. Each species is illustrated and has
information and distribution maps. There is a master species list and
individual lists arranged by each of Wyoming's National Forests as well
as lists as compiled by other federal and state agencies.
